Pala Labs is a techno-cultural incubator based in Tokyo and Singapore dedicated to advancing the open-source movement and solely contributing to "people's" technology.

philosophy

In a time when technology has an unparalleled impact on society, we believe it is essential to prioritize a philosophy grounded in humanity and long-term vision. We need..people's technology.

"Technology should be a tool that empowers individuals to shape their own paths to freedom—it should not be a tool to control personal agency."

Our name "Pala" draws inspiration from Aldous Huxley's final novel, Island (1962). In the novel, the fictional island of "Pala" is a harmonious world where Eastern philosophy and Western science coexist, a community that values human happiness over technological advancement or economic growth without ethics.

In contrast to the dystopia depicted in Huxley's renowned work, Brave New World (1932), Island represents an alternative vision—a perspective that resonates with the philosophy of Pala Labs.

Many of the lessons we found in Huxley are consistent with the ideals of the hippies, hackers and cypherpunks who came after Huxley's time.
We see technologies like Bitcoin and Web3 as we know it in its original vision as extensions of these principles.
